Contenders is the sixth album from Athens, GA singer/songwriter Ken Will Morton.

The acoustic based album was recorded at Ghostmeat Studio with Russ Hallauer (Sunbrain, The Welfare Liners), Rob Keller (Six String Drag, The Welfare Liners), AdamPoulin (The Welfare Liners) and Scotty Nicholson (Bearfoot Hookers) joining Morton and his usual bandmembers Andrew Vickery and Dean Johnston.

A Pre-existing Condition was recorded just outside Athens, GA with Rob Keller (Six String Drag) on upright bass and backing vocals, William Tonks (Bloodkin) on dobro and guitar and Russ Hallauer (Sunbrain) on mandolin and tenor banjo. The album distinguishes itself from other recent Dondero releases with exclusive use of acoustic instruments and extensive use of vocal harmony. Clay Leverett (Now It's Overhead) and Ken Will Morton also make guest appearances with backing vocals and harmonica respectively. The 13-track album features original compositions side by side with Dondero's interpretations of songs by artists such as Little Feat, Elizabeth Cotten, Charlie Pride, Neil Young, Woody Guthrie, Doug Sahm, Jawbreaker, Bob Dylan and Jimmie Rodgers.

- ATHFEST 2008 CD Release Party is scheduled for Friday, May15, 20089 at Tasty World in downtown Athens. It will be a free show featuring live performances several bands from the CD.

- ATHFEST 2009 CD will be released on May 19, 2009 to promote the 13th annual Athens Music & Arts Festival which is June 25-28.

- ATHFEST 2009 CD will be available at AthFest.com, Ghostmeat.com, select record stores, AthFest merch booths and globally via iTunes or your favorite digital music store.

- ATHFEST 2009 CD is the 21th compilation of local and regional music produced by Athens-based Ghostmeat Records which was founded by AthFest CD producer Russ Hallauer in 1994.

ATHFEST 2009 CD SUBMISSIONS NOW BEING ACCEPTED

AthFest 2009, in conjunction with Ghostmeat Records, is now accepting submissions for the 2009 AthFest compilation CD.

Submissions are open only to Athens-based bands. Bands are encouraged to submit previously unreleased material. Music must be on standard audio CD or CD-R format and must be delivered in person to the AthFest office on the third floor of the Fred Building, located downtown at 220 College Avenue, Suite 318. Submissions will not be considered without a completed submission form available at www.AthFest.com. Only one song is allowed per submission form.

The deadline is January 30, 2009.
